Update: Two dead after motel fire, suspect arrested for arson

SEATTLE, WA – Two people died after sustaining severe burns from a motel fire that occurred on July 13, which investigators now have confirmed was arson.

A 24-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was arrested in connection with the arson and on suspicion of assault and murder, according to KOMO News.

The July 13 fire occurred at the Hillside Motel in the 2400 block of Aurora Avenue North. Firefighters arrived at the motel to find some people jumping from the third story to escape the flames. Six people were transported to Harborview Medical Center, four of whom were in critical condition.

Two of those people, a 32-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, later died. The other four are still in the hospital.
