71-year-old woman dies after 18-wheeler hits her car

GRANT COUNTY, WA – A 71-year-old woman from Odessa died Tuesday after her vehicle was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler on Road W-Northeast just north of Ruff.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim, Kelly Korpinen, stopped in the road because of low visibility due to a dust storm. The 18-wheeler, driven by 27-year-old Randy Gross, could not stop in time before hitting Korpinen’s vehicle.

Korpinen died at the scene. Officials are investigating but do not believe impairment was a factor in this accident.
