Driver killed in semi-truck accident on Mercer Island

MERCER ISLAND, WA — The driver of a semi-truck was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Mercer Island early Friday morning, according to Trooper Rick Johnson with the Washington State Patrol for King County.

Just before 2am a semi went off the roadway WB 90 near MP 43. The driver suffered a medical episode and unfortunately did not survive. The passenger sustained bumps and bruises. This will be a long term recovery effort. #UseCaution through the area. pic.twitter.com/fo3LILpYbP

The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on I-90 westbound near mile post 43. The driver of the semi suffered a medical episode, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway, said Trooper Johnson. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The recovery effort is expected to take a significant time that involves towing and unloading the semi’s trailer.
