Motorcyclist dies after two-vehicle crash on I-5 in Federal Way

KING COUNTY, WA — A 47-year-old Tacoma motorcyclist died Friday afternoon after a collision with a pickup truck on Interstate 5 in Federal Way, reports The News Tribune.

Washington State Patrol said the fatal accident happened near the interstate’s merge with State Route 18 at around 2:00 p.m.

The man was northbound on a 2009 Honda CBR600 and taking the HOV lane to SR-18 when he began to lose control of his bike. While making a lane change, he collided with the rear of a 2016 Ram 1500.

WSP said the motorcyclist later died from his injuries at Harborview Medical Center. The press release indicated the victim had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The 22-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured and was said to have been wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation as of Saturday.
