Driver arrested for suspected DUI after SR-20 collision in Mt. Vernon

SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — Serious injuries were reported last Thursday morning after a crash involving a suspected DUI driver on State Route 20 in Mount Vernon, according to Washington State Patrol.

Mount Vernon – Troopers are on scene of a collision on SR 20 and SR 536. It appears to be serious but not life threatening. Expect delays through the area as we investigate.

Troopers responded to the scene near the State Route 536 intersection shortly before 11:25 a.m.

At the time of the initial report, Trooper Rocky Oliphant indicated the crash resulted in serious but non-life-threatening injuries. It was not immediately clear how many people were injured.

No details were disclosed on the events leading up to the collision, but authorities said the causing driver displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for suspected DUI and possible vehicular assault, pending an investigation.

The road was closed during the response but was reopened by 12:51 p.m.
