Couple fatally struck in Seattle light rail crash
Request Free ConsultationSEATTLE, WA — Two pedestrians were fatally injured Friday evening after being struck by a Sound Transit light rail train in Seattle, according to Shoreline Area News.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street in the Columbia City neighborhood shortly after 6:00 p.m.
According to Seattle police, a woman and a man were crossing the street using the crosswalk while the “Don’t Walk” signal was lit, putting themselves in the path of an advancing electric light rail car, which struck and pinned them down.
Seattle Police and crews with the Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene, working to extricate the couple from under the car.
The woman, reportedly a well-known Shoreline resident, died at the scene. Her male partner was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation was being conducted by detectives with Traffic Collision Investigation Squad.
