The man, a resident of Federal Way, was driving a 2015 Ford Focus northbound on SR-167 near the state Route 516 merge at around 2:43 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway, hit the barrier, and rolled until coming to rest in the HOV lane. The man then got out of his car and stood by the front left side.
Not long after, a 2003 Toyota Highlander approaching in the HOV lane swerved in an attempt to avoid the Ford Focus, hitting the left side of the vehicle and the 25-year-old man. The Highlander came to a stop in the center lane.
The 25-year-old man was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he remained in critical condition as of early Monday afternoon.
The driver of the Highlander, a 74-year-old Seattle man, was not reported injured.
The Washington State Patrol attributed speed as the cause of the accident. No information has been reported on whether or not impairment is suspected.
