The crash took place on a span of SR-109 between the areas of Aberdeen and Ocean Shores at about 1:30 p.m.
Washington State Troopers said a 53-year-old Elma man was driving south on SR-109 when he drifted to sleep, causing his vehicle to run off the road. He then overcorrected his steering, struck a dirt embankment, and re-entered the roadway, where he hit the victim’s vehicle head-on.

The event left the area closed for around four hours as authorities worked to clear the scene.
Troopers said the causing driver may face a charge of second-degree negligent driving.
