Speeding Tesla causes multi-car crash on I-5 northbound in Tacoma
Request Free ConsultationTACOMA, WA — A speeding Tesla was responsible for a multi-vehicle collision early Saturday morning on Interstate 5 northbound in Tacoma, according to Q13 Fox.
The incident occurred on a stretch of I-5 near East Bay Street at around 3:40 a.m. A northbound Tesla was speeding when its driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a barrier, struck a pickup truck in another lane, and then hit a van.
Troopers with Washington State Patrol said the causing driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Another driver received minor injuries, and a third driver was uninjured.
Authorities said the Tesla driver stands to be cited for reckless driving, but is not suspected of impairment at this time.
The incident shut down I-5 for several hours as emergency crews responded, but was reopened not long after 8:00 a.m.
